The Maryland Supplemental Retirement Plans are administered by a nine-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor of Maryland to staggered four-year terms. The governor selects three members from any of the following departments, agencies or boards: the Department of Budget and Management, the Department of Education, the Comptroller of the Treasury, the State Treasurer's Office, the Maryland State Retirement and Pension Systems or the Maryland Higher Education Commission.
Three other members must be eligible to participate in one or more of the plans, provided that at least one is eligible for the 403(b) plan. Three additional members must represent the general public and must not be eligible to participate in the plans. One of these members must have experience with deferred compensation and salary reduction plans. Each board member serves on at least one committee. The committees include the Investment Committee and the Audit Committee.
