Pennsylvania Western Prob/Pretrial Office

The federal probation system was established by Congress through the Federal Probation Act of 1925 and gave the United States Courts the authority to appoint probation officers and to place defendants on probation. The probation system was not funded until 1927, and the probation office in the Western District of Pennsylvania was established in 1928.
